Pre-College Art Portfolio Summer Intensive

Are you eager to create a portfolio that will get you into a prestigious art school? Our Summer intensive program does just that. You will be immersed in the creative process for a full week for five hours per day.

Students will explore drawing, painting, illustration, design, fashion and embroidery. By the end of the week you should have 5-10 portfolio pieces; art colleges require 12-20 portfolio pieces, so you will be half way there.

Students I have taught have beeen accepted to the top NYC art schools (SVA, PRATT, Parsons, FIT), as well as RISD, VCU, UVA, MassArt, Monseratt College of Art, Ringling, CalArts, Lesley University, and more. On avarage my students receive $150,000 in portfolio-based merit scholarships for four-year programs.

The 1-week camp is $900*

Structure of the camp

Students will have five hours of art creating per day with a lunch break and a possibility to use the outdoor pool. Life guards will be present, however, everyone is required to sign a liability form and should know how to swim. Each day students will do a variety of projects and strive to complete between 1-2 art pieces that could go into their portfolios. For example, we might do a drawing session in the morning and a painting session in the afternoon. We will cover ALL of the aspects that art colleges require: observational drawing and painting, design, illustration, fashion, and embroidery. Other programs might offer just drawing or just illustration, but we offer all of the meduims and areas of art. I partnered with a fashion/embroidery instructor who will join us for this camp and teach the students her secrets on fashion illustration, creating technical sketches, and exploring the ancient art of hand embroidery. All of these projects will enhance students' portfolios and surprise the college admissions.

*Students are required to bring their own art supplies, the list of which will be provided to those registered.

Meet the teachers

I am a professional artist and university adjunct faculty with over 25 years of experience teaching teens and adults. I have been teaching at NOVA Community College for years and two years at George Mason as well at Marymount Universities. Teaching is my passion and enjoy this process tremendously. Additionally I am well versed in design industry as I held several graphic design/art director's positions in NYC and Boston over the years.

My creative partner, a fashion and sewing expert, Maya, will be joining us this Summer for delightful embroidery and fashion lessons. Maya brings years of experience teaching and expertise in the Fashion industry. She designed and owned a fashion line and was the founder of an online sewing school. She will be teaching students fashion illustration, technical sketching, and the intricate technique of hand embroidery. These finished pieces will enhance students' portfolios even if they are not going into Fashion.

We are looking forward to a great intensive experience for all of you and are excited to see your creativity unfold.
